Project 4: Folio Submission Uploaded on the Blog Site
The folio should include selected and edited drawings and images from all the projects in Session 1. Your name, project titles and necessary but concise project descriptions should also be included. This folio project is a chance for you to address those issues that you might have failed to deal with in your previous projects. Some level of design editing is expected as well as some improvement in the quality of your graphic presentation and if required of your model. Please bear in mind that this submission comprises 15% of the final course grade, and it will be a significant component to contribute to, and even determine your final mark.
One of the important tasks for the folio is to photograph your models. It is recommended that the models are photographed against either dark or light background with a spot light (black fabric could be quite effective as the background if you do not have access to a photo lab). You should not use real landscape (trees for example), humans and buildings as your model backdrop, for they will distort the sense of scale of your project: a decent digital camera is quite necessary.
Submission Date: As we need to finalize your evaluation for the Design Studio in Session 1 on Tuesday 17 June in the morning, we strongly advice to upload your Folio on your blog site at the latest on Monday 16 June before 5PM. Please remember: we cannot accept late work.

Tasks for Thursday Tutorial week 10
Project 3 - Art Gallery, Shop/House
Research:
From the list of art galleries that Xing presented during his lecture last week, please select at least two of them and show in plan the relation between the circulation and the display, and in section the relation between the circulation, the display and the natural versus the artificial light. (This part should have been already started in class during the lecture.) Any other gallery visited or researched?
Site Analysis:
Present your site through a photographic and graphic documentation + a small site/study model at the appropriate scale (1:500). We expect enough information to appreciate your chosen site i.e. not a thousands of photographs but a few selected images + free-hand drawings. A site analysis is a graphic explanation of observations and conclusions about your site. Analytical drawings should show in plan, section and front elevation your site (without the existing building) in relation to the context.
• Any particular element, opening, proportion, height, canopy, texture, material from the two adjacent buildings and from the buildings opposite to your site worth considering?
• Orientation? North Point?
The site model (1:500) should help you to define the volume available for your project.
The site analysis should develop into a site strategy relating the programme to the characteristics of the site.
Programme:
Search and select the kind of artists who are to be exhibited in your gallery (at least two). This choice is important for your design development. Please refer to the project 3 brief p.2 for the client programme.

Using the site study model at the scale 1:500, play with the space and the volume available + your choice of artists to present at least two alternative study models for your project at the scale 1:500. It must be evident in the models:

Task for Thursday Tutorial week 7
Project 2
Dear students,
Tomorrow is the last tutorial before the submission next week.
We expect you to come prepared with a set of draft drawings (at least a plan and a section) and a study model to work with during the tutorial, demonstrating whether (or not) your project is based on a well defined activity and it is supported by a sound research. i.e. some readings from the reference list.
Borrowing from Rachel Neeson and Nick Murcutt's open lecture yesterday, please learn to be critical of your own design and do not stop asking yourself... What if?...through a series of small study models which will help you to find the best solution and show us your design exploration.

2. Choose your painting and become a cultural detective
3. Start researching from the reference list one book from each category (at least a chapter from each book which means something to you)
4. Write your spatial narrative i.e. who is the character (or characters max 2) and what kind of spatial ambiance (one to max three rooms) you intend to create for your figure (s).
5. Attempt to condense your spatial narrative in one sentence as per example from the brief

1. FORM GROUPS OF TWO FOR ALL THE VILLAS EXCEPT ADOLF LOOS' VILLA MULLER WHICH WILL BE ANALYZED BY THREE STUDENTS each group should have six subgroups of 2 students and one of 3 students.
2. RESEARCH THE VILLA ASSIGNED AFTER THE INTRODUCTORY LESSON USING THE LIBRARY AND OTHER SOURCES
